Where was I again? Oh, yeah....

I took some time to do a few things around the house, as well as enjoy some of what "Life" has to offer, and....well, once again the Blog is quite old. (sigh)

Also, I realize that some of these posts are quite lengthy, or perhaps too detailed, so in an effort to play catch-up I may shorten things up somewhat for the time being.

In my last post I was talking about magazine and gripper motors, and why only one armature had a bearing on it.  Turns out some "idiot" (cough, cough!) tried to press a new bearing onto a shaft that was scored, and of course the bearing seized on the shaft.

Result?

I had to cut apart a perfectly good bearing in order to remove it!

And then order another new bearing from Stamann in Germany....

I seem to recall that when installing the motor armatures there were some critical dimensions involved, along with the installation of some shims, but too much time has gone by for me to remember all of the details, and I can't find those dimension right now, but suffice to say that one cannot simply slam things together and "call 'er good".

(Once I find that sheet with the dimensions and info I will remove this sentence and place that info here in its stead.)

Once the new bearing arrived, and after I had adequately cleaned the surface of the shaft, I completed the reassembly of both motors:

One of the things I recall as a child was the "smell" of the old jukebox, a smell which seems to permeate this machine as well, and since this will be a fixture in our family room, and I don't wish to offend anyone's olfactory glands (mine included!), I decided to use a non-standard product for lubricating the gears and drive mechanism in these motors:

This product is used in the Food Prep industry, is odorless, tasteless (not applicable here), and has high melting point. Will it work? Well, it's made for gears and drive mechs in food processors and what-not, so I don't see why it won't....

A generous amount of lube in the gearcase:

A good amount on the nylon gear:

And after installation of the previously cleaned exterior gears, Voila!

One gripper, and one magazine, motor assembly, set aside for later reinstallation.
